Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Dr. Dhaliwal first completed her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. While volunteering at a local hospital and a women's health clinic, Dr. Dhaliwal gained an interest in medicine. As she became exposed to chronic health concerns in her own family and familiarized herself with the healthcare system, Dr. Dhaliwal noticed that root causes of diseases were rarely treated. Lifestyle changes and long term prevention goals were also not emphasized, which resulted in the relapse of symptoms.
After exploring differences between various streams of medicine and being introduced to a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Dhaliwal resonated with, and pursued naturopathic medicine. Following four years of rigorous academic learning and clinical training, she obtained her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (now the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine), Canada's only accredited naturopathic medical school. During her clinical training, Dr. Dhaliwal also completed a rotation at Positive Living BC in Vancouver, where she formulated naturopathic treatment protocols for individuals with HIV/AIDS. She is a member in good standing with The College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta, The Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, and The Alberta Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
