A nonselective contact herbicide called paraquat travels into the xylem after being absorbed by the leaf. It is employed for inter-row weed control in several crops as well as broad-spectrum weed and grass management in fruit orchards and plantations. Humans are extremely poisonous to paraquat. Accidental intake or inhalation would be extremely risky. Paraquat is prohibited in more than 50 countries, including the European Union, China, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
