Description

I couldn't find this information in updates or announcements and so I decided to post it here for people to talk about. Dear RuneScape Community, I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss the highly emotive issue that we as a community face - bots.

We made a promise at the start of the year when we returned Free Trade and the Wilderness home, that we would combine the two with programs that would combat the inevitable botting. In the last few months, we have started a number programmes to do this. Certain of them we've already talked about to you because of legal reasons, and some because it is not our goal to inform bot makers or gold farmers about our countermeasures.

We are having to deal with a problem that's still very large and, worst of all, adversely impacting our game in various ways despite our programs and best intentions. We continue to fight bots on every front. To be more transparent and open, we would like to provide a couple of measures and initiatives we are about to release/have released recently:

We have recently improved our internal systems in order to spot spam from the chat window and instantly mute the offender to stop the continuous flow of communication from the gold farmers that are affecting the gaming experience. We are grateful for your feedback! Continuing our ongoing legal cases against bot developers.
Mandatory email validation for new accounts will increase security to accounts and could hinder massive account creation process that gold farmers use.
