I will preface this by saying I don't think it's a bad thing for them to bring awareness to this issue. It is important that it can't just be dismissed by taking a look from it. That said, I do hold a certain amount of doubt towards multi-billion dollar multinational corporations paying lip service to important social issues. Obviously, as a capitalist business they are under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they attempt to stand in solidarity with all the common people. Currently there are companies out there that do things and this is the opportunity to highlight those efforts; to demonstrate that they're more than simply words.

I'd normally agree in the event of paying lip service to social issues without also placing support and money to advocate for change or applying it to the company and their job in the very least. That said police brutality is not exactly something that a company like EA throwing cash at the problem does much towards fixing. At best they place money towards the lawyers and groups that struggle to see justice after the truth or lobby to have laws changed that in the present government will not. It has systemic issues within authorities of not reporting their own and holding them liable rather staying quiet and with the police unions that allow it all to happen or in a sense even promote it by the consequences being a slap on the wrist followed by being hired at a different precinct showing them there's no consequences. Before even getting to laws and rulings such as qualified immunity which shield abusive cops and allow them to abuse their power . The vast majority of which EA and most capitalist companies aren't able to do all that much about making it unjust to say they're in the best possible position to do more.

The ones in the best possible place to do more would be the assumed good cops by no longer staying quiet and allowing bad cops to get away with their misuse of power or voting for superior leadership for their unions which will not enable the behavior. But of course it's just words. Companies will only ever do these things once public opinion has turned into one way. Since following decades of corporations doing things for the wrong reason, people are extremely cynical. Part of what people can do is elect politicians that at least promise that they'll hold these corporations accountable. It probably wont happen alone. This would be much easier if a person like this may run for office successfully.

Because regardless of the sentiment, this is still 100% a business and marketing maneuver. If they really wanted to do something positive, they could do it without marketing their merchandise while doing this. As it's not genuine. This is no different than the coronavirus advertisements. They could have said nothing at all. Instead, they attracted positive attention to the protests. That's good. Solidarity or else they realize a decent chunk of the audience is preoccupied with something more important than a damn videogame? Man. These comments really highlight the nihilistic character of reddit users. Yes, this is a provider. Yes, it's something to do with advertising. But Jesus, can't we be happy that companies are saying something? Do you not know how much of an effect this could make? If the company ignored the circumstance, it would give every checked out mind the concept that what is happening is normal and regular.
