"School isn't just about education. It's about friends, sports and, most importantly, finding communities. The pandemic has really highlighted how important these connections are important for teenagers." stated Spiro Khouri, the CEO of TGS. "Esports helped fill that gap, while the rest of the world was on pause. This tournament will be a chance for kids from all over the city together in one massive event."
The tournament will feature a PlayStation and Xbox division. It will take place online over the weekend of November 7 and November 14-15. A final round involving the Elite 8 for each division will be held over the weekend of November 21-22. It will be streamed live on TGS' Twitch channel. TGS will be the host and provide professional event management and production.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to three non-profits: Cxmmunity, which promotes inclusion of minorities in sports; Beyond Sports, which aids in the transformation of athletic abilities into real life opportunities; and That Harper Kid. This foundation was established by Linnae Harper, the former Chicago Sky guard, to aid local youth.
Some Chicago area high school basketball legends have also lent their support to the cause such as Jahil Okafor, Kendrick Nunn, Quentin Richardson, Darius Miles, Tim Hardaway, Deon Thomas, Hoop Dreams stars Arthur Agee and William Gates and Chicago high school legend Linnae Harper. Follow them on their social media accounts as they cheer on the players.
